A lucid prose poem. Open Throat deliciously devours the lame quality of 21st century American cluelessness. In a short story composed by a Mountain lion narrator and observer, the vacuous speech it overhears in LA is revealing. I think high school, middle school, even college students might love this little book. If I were still teaching I would try it out with them.

Joker is a bitter joke, a cracked mirror so unflattering, disturbing and beautifully reflective, a true piece of art. Phoenix rises above the fray in an award winning performance, the best of his career.
