At first, I thought this game was lame. I stopped playing after about 10 to 15 hours.
Luckily, I bought it again a couple years later (this time for the Nintendo Switch) and it’s actually an amazingly awesome game.
Here’s what everyone needs to realize: THIS GAME LOOKS EMPTY AT FIRST, BUT ITS ACTUALLY NOT. There’s 120 mini dungeons (shrines) and many of them are actually super fun and creative.
When I started playing this game the 2nd time, after about 15 hours, the game started getting really good. The story started fleshing out, I got the hang of cooking and the combat system, and I started finding shrines. Now it’s an amazing, addicting game.
The open world took some getting used to, but it’s definitely a great game. It’s the 2nd best Zelda IMO, behind only OOT. (MM, TP and WW are tied for 2nd also).
THE ONLY DOWNSIDES OF THIS GAME:
1) Not enough “big” dungeons (temples). They should have like 8, instead they only have 4 smallish divine beasts. They have 120 shrines that are fun and challenging and memorable but nothing like an actual big temple.
2) the weapons shouldn’t break so much. And the master sword should be able to be used all the time.
3) they need more types of enemies, and also more items.
Part of the fun of dungeons/temples is puzzle solving… but the other part is the exploration of the temple, and the map studying of the temple, etc.
Overall though it’s an amazing, amazing game. It has so much potential.
THE MOST PERFECT ZELDA GAME EVER would be combining temples (like the ones you find in OOT, MM or TP), and combine that with pretty much the same over world land map as Breath or the Wild… *BUT*, add in way more temples (quality, large and important dungeons), and make the land less empty (find even more stuff to do), add in more tools to use (such as iron boots, hook shot, etc) and fix the weapons system.
Also, link being able to climb should be removed for things like mazes, or temples/dungeons so that he can’t cheat obviously. There was a few large mazes that I “skipped” due to the ability to climb walls. And I felt guilty afterwards, lol…
So BOTW 2 should keep the same map, but make the above changes and it would be literally a PERFECT game!!
And don’t think it’s super empty- it’s actually not, it only feels empty when you’re climbing a cliff. Which btw I found to be really fun and enjoyable as long as you can’t use it to cheat (like with the mazes).
