It is an exceptionally well made slow burn series that picks up momentum at the right time. The performances, the cinematography, the story telling is just top-notch. The gem of the show is Kate Winslet's performance and the character development. The main characters are so well developed that we get easily connected with them from the start. It's the story of Mare Sheehan (beautifully played by Kate Winslet), a police detective, investigating a brutal murder in a small town. It undoubtedly deserves a 9 but still it will only get 7.5 because of the investigation plot and the familiarity of the concept (The formula is pretty similar to other two HBO series Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects - Take a well known actress and place her in a small town where she solves a series of crimes). The writers gave so much focus in developing the characters that they undermined the role of the police in a serious murder investigation. The show wouldn't be 7 episodes long if the police searched the house of the victim - the story would have finished in just 2 episodes. But overall it is one of the best shows of this year that definitely deserves a watch...7.5/10
