This is my new favourite movie
Yes, I understand all the hate Elio is receiving (even though i feel the constant comparisons to KPDH are a bit unnecessary) bc the pacing IS inconsistent, the writing unnatural at times and the plot holes a bit too big to ignore, but all the haters are forgetting that this is LITERALLY a children's movie (as opposed to SONY which generally has an older audience)
Maybe I am a bit biased, as this movie 100% catered to my specific hyperfixation, but i dont care. I loved the Easter eggs (like seeing the Drake equation on that one guy's shirt got me way too excited) and I nearly started crying when carl sagan's voice just popped up
I also related a hell of a lot to Elio, despite him being more than slightly insufferable at times (which is probably not a good thing for me).
It should also be noted that this movie is objectively visually appealing and has an amazing soundtrack.
Even though this movie is by no means groundbreakingly original, this is the first take on the "misunderstood kid get themself into trouble but somehow leaves things better than they found it" trope that I actually enjoyed (enjoyed is a bit of an understatement)
So please, if you are in any way a Becky Chambers, Steven Universe, Bee and Puppycat, Strange planet (both movie and show), Star trek, doctor who... (The list really goes on) stan, watch this. You might be disappointed, but i promise it is in no way as bad as apparently every single influencer in the world claims it to be.
