NGK is not a film to watch. It is a film to observe. Movies like this come once in a decade. I connected this movie to the experience I received while watching Kammara Sambhavam. The movie shatters all sorts of preconceived ideas of a Hero. I heard certain reviews stating that the film will be an average experience in the first watch, but one will realize the director's vision accurately during the second watch. From my experience, I would like to say that the you necessarily don't watch the movie another time to fully understand the concept. It takes careful observation during the first watch to figure out what the movie means.
Touching on Suriya's performance, I would say that Suriya is ten steps ahead of his idol actor, Kamal Haasan. You cannot imagine an NGK without Suriya. That role is irreplaceable. If I liked Suriya as an actor earlier, now I am his die hard fan. On this note, I would like to mention the words of a veteran filmmaker who said that Suriya had the most precious gift an actor needs. Expressive eyes. I will salute the person who said that because unless it was for Suriya's intriguing expressions, one would never get the true depth of each scene. Interval block and Pothachalum song needs special mention.
I wont go to the extent saying that NGK is the best movie ever made. But it is the most variant movie made recently in Tamil cinema.
The journey of a man from the comfort zone of greenery and family to the dark web of politics, laden with red. That is NGK for you. A cult classic unfinished.
