Sounded like a interesting story. Terrible movie both my wife and I watched and thought the movie was subpar. Flashbacks lacked visual clues to let you know where you were in the movie. Initially they listed dates but that disappeared. The mother didn't age at all so you weren't sure at what point of time or place you were. Simple solution would have been hairstyle change or slight grey hair. Some transitions didn't make any sense or were lacking. At some points I wasn't even sure who the father of the child was. Too bad I expected much more!
