Went to see The Long Walk tonight. Based on the Stephen King book of the same name, written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. I read the book, published in 1979, so I should have been prepared.
I'm unsure if I loved this movie or hatred it. But I am sure that I have never seen a movie more deeply disturbing.
Stephen King is a master at character development and storytelling. These talents are on full display. But also he has always been ahead of the pack in imagining the horrors that could befall us both personally and politically. From Rage, with a school shooter to The Stand with an apocalyptic flu to this Long Walk. With t.v. shows like Survivor and talk by government officials of punishing dissent against the government, televising executions and shooting the homeless, the premise of this book is only too realistic.
For those criticizing this movie as too woke or anti Trump, the movie is very true to the book, again written in 1979.
There are strong themes of love and brotherhood and living in every moment. And a strong cautionary tale about the ability of a government to make the most horrific acts seem normal and patriotic.
See it at your own risk.
