There is so much of this that is just “plain FALSE”. As one of the “Original Laker Girls”, I can tell the REAL story. Jeanie Buss had nothing to do with the Laker Girls. Paula Abdul auditioned for the 3rd year of the team She was 1 of many choreographers from the 4th season on. Jerry Buss started the Laker Girls. 6 USC SongGirls started the team. They added 4 UCLA Song Girls. Choreography was done as a team. The 2nd year, a production company, sadly took over and switched the team name to “The Golden Girls”. Two members were added on a private audition. The women went on strike at 3/4’s end of the season because they were being taken advantage of. So, Jerry Buss contacted his 2nd cousin, a member of the team. The production company was fired, the ladies got a raise, the team name was reverted back to, “The Laker Girls”. The music provided was from the USC marching band called “The Laker Band”. In season 3, music switched from band music mixed with can music. The first public audition was held going into the 3 rd year. 500 candidates showed up. Jerry Buss observed and put his recommendations in, on desirable ladies. This team were ladies and dedicated dancers. And THAT’S the TRUTH. Do your research!
