I have been trying to give this series a chance. I've held off on writing a review to see if it would find away to get back into canon. I'm fine with Capta-, sorry, *Admiral* Keyes being black. I'm okay with the side characters, and new stuff in Halo like Mackee. Hell, I didn’t even mind the gay blind Spartan and Pirate king daddy s
Spartan subplots. I love seeing the personal side of John-117. The visuals are spectacular. I cannot stand, however, how the firmly established canon of the Halo franchise, both from the books and games, is so blatantly ignored.
In canon, Captain Keyes is captaining ships leading up to and during the Battle of Reach. In fact, it is a tracking device planted on his ship, the Iroquois, that allows the Covenant to find Reach. Captain Keyes dies, in canon, on Halo, absorbed by the Flood. Instead, the show runners said "f$&k that, let's kill him off just to have a heroic death!" Even if the death is a fakeout, and the head clowns writing this garbage try to get back in line with canon, this $#!+ has burned itself crispier than Admiral Keyes seems to be.
Show writers, producers, directors, etc., this is directed to you: WHY?! You have a rich universe, filled with stories from 10 video games and numerous books (including comics), and even animes/cartoons from which to draw upon! You could bring those stories to life. You could create new stories and/or build upon/fill in the gaps between existing stories! Why would you instead make a mockery of them?!
