Being a ‘birth, biological, first, or natural’ mother, who has been a member of ALMA since the 1980s, I recognized Hole in my Heart as a must read. Must read because I too gave up a daughter to adoption. I too wondered if she was for sure adopted, not in foster care or worse.
I was so drawn to this story, so much like my own. But Ms Dusky did more than just worry! She got involved with people, like Florence Fisher, of Adoptee Liberty Movement Association - ALMA. and Ms Dusky used her journalistic expertise to write about and for people who deserve their history, heritage and birth certificate. All the while dealing with an off again, on again relationship with a daughter who who was chasing demons of her own.
This is a must read, for the history of the searches, legal blocks, uncooperative laws on both sides, since now with dna testing, no one needs to wonder anymore.
