I would like to start this review off by saying it isn't a bad movie, but it isn't one I would want to watch again. Below are the things I liked and didn't like about the movie.
The Pros:
It has beautiful animation and was very creative with the world's stylization of creatures and environments. This is something that most Disney and Pixar films seem to never fail to do. The plot twist revealing the characters lived in a giant land turtle was also very unexpected, but fits right in once you think about their environments.
The Cons:
The plot is quite a bit scattered. The characters end up changing their end goals and moving back and forth from place to place in the story. It just doesn't flow the way it should. Also, the amount of time character spend doing things that affect the plot in major ways is often short and quick. The things in a story that don't matter shouldn't be almost as long as major events. My second problem with this movie is the characters at times feel shallow. Some of the main characters are written like they are meant to be onscreen for a very small amount of time. My final problem with this movie is the unnecessary politics being thrust into the plot. I know people are tired of hearing this, but not everyone has the same political opinion. If films started adding in random chunks of conservative opinions into kids movies, than people would lose their minds. I am not saying I agree with any side of the political spectrum, but it was entirely unnecessary to the plot and just took away from film time that could've been used to lengthen important plot events. It's a KIDS movie. It's meant to be something I can just sit down and enjoy with my family without having to think about politics.
Final Thoughts:
Like I said in the beginning, it's not a terrible movie. It's biggest problems could've been easily avoided and it would've been a great movie. Overall, my advice is that the movie is worth seeing... once.
