I first saw this book on Pinterest with some quotes from it, then I started seeing it on TikTok, and I got so curious about it. Months later, I finally decided to read it. At first, I read it on my tablet, but just within the first few pages, I wasn’t expecting everything that came. I cried so hard while reading, and that’s when I decided to buy the physical book. I waited for days before I could continue reading again. and oh, my heart it was so depressing. I had to remind myself that the characters were just fictional for my own sake, but knowing that there are real women in Afghanistan who live through situations like Mariam and Laila’s doesn’t ease the pain. Indeed, there is no healing after reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. To the women of Afghanistan....my heart is with you. This is a book every woman should read.
