Hesitantly optimistic.
I approached these first two episodes with low expectations as to not be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised.
Highlights include: acting, world building, costumes, and TV-14 rating (not MA). As a Tolkien fan, it was thrilling to see the Slmarillion finally come alive. However, I fear it may be at the expense of original, and emotionally-grounded storytelling. We’ll see.
Based on the trailers, I was afraid the CGI would take me out of the experience, but instead it drew me in further.
Can’t wait to watch more with my family.
