I’ve absolutely loved these books - I’ve listened to them all as audio books when driving in the car or out cycling. The voice actor who plays Peter and narrates is excellent. This book though is very disappointing. I have a wife and children - an ordinary unspectacular family life - I’ve lived it. I don’t want to read about it. I love Peter’s world because of the magic not because of his alpha wife and family. I don’t care about teenage angst I’ve lived it personally and vicariously through my children. Tolkien didn’t marry Gandalf off to a bossy wife in book 3 and Sauron didn’t need a black lesbian daughter to make him interesting. The author - a middle aged white bloke has decided that he is going to tick every box known to woke. I imagine he’s after the elusive film deal. In the end though I just gave up - tragic really as I thought I’d found a companion for life.
