Sex and the City was iconic.
This is not. The script is awful.
They changed all the character development that was built up over 6 seasons and 2 movies in a terrible reboot. Make slight changes, sure, but the 2000s nostalgia is what made this show so iconic, along with the girls all living in their own world with their own distinct personalities. So why are we all of a sudden jumping to the 21st century and forgetting what era these ladies were made in?
We knew they could be out of touch, and the show missed the mark with cultural things we know to be inappropriate now, but it was the lore of it all—it was a different time, and it was them. Sex and the City was an escape for us to watch the mess and brilliance of girlhood, fashion, boys, and friendship. They could've really gone somewhere with this reboot, with this next chapter in their lives. I understand people want to be more politically correct, inclusive, and diverse. I’m all for the representation, it's so important. i get the characters learning and adapting. but I’m sick of new TV shows and movies just missing the mark on it. It's always done as propaganda and it's fake. In real life, it's not how people talk and interact, it's just strange and unnatural. Like, "WOOP, here’s a Black guy. We solved racism, and now here’s a stereotypical lesbian." To me, that's more tone-deaf than creating natural character development, with a man who's Black or a girlfriend for Miranda and just building the same bond as if it was Steve, Stanford, Big, Charlotte, or Miranda. With a good script.
Hollywood is losing its sparkle. Will there ever be timeless shows and movies again that actually feel like how humans are, how they talk to each other, dress, and exist? Or will it be fabricated and tiptoed out of fear of being judged on social media, as if we forget humans aren’t perfect? Is that so terrible to put in a storyline? Where are the creatives with balls?
