The trailer intrigued us, and so we watched. The whole ‘take the test’ background to the film needed more attention-although we gleaned that it is along the lines of people’s exploration of their genes & heritage. ‘If you’re unsure, or just curious, find out for sure.’ Both characters seemed to enjoy the platonic friendship they had, BFF etc. The plot played out, she ‘found’ her perfect match and he plodded along with life, apparently without wondering ‘what if?’ Been there myself - as have friends- and also made decisions that could have been different. That’s what made the film worth watching-it’s relatability to actual life. Ending wasn’t predictable, although inevitable.

If you’re a Tom Clancy tragic, and if you enjoyed reading his novel ‘Without Remorse’, then this ain’t it. Has nothing like the book storyline, apart from the name John Kelly morphing into John Clark. The novel was a powerful back story to John Clark’s role in following novels, including the Jack Ryan books. Naming the CIA guy Ritter just doesn’t fit, if you’re a TC tragic you’ll know why. The film itself? Not even a very believable plot line. Disappointed all around.

In 1979, most Kibbutz volunteers had a copy of this book. It was as much a part of spending a few months in the nirvana that was kibbutz life, as listening to the pirate radio station The Voice of Peace. The book is very readable and gives a voice to both sides of what was - in 1948 - and still is today a tragic and complex history. The two authors have produced a commendable version of the aftermath of the British withdrawal. A few years later I was working overlands on the London-Kathmandu route. The authors book ‘Freedom at Midnight’ does a similar job with Indian & Pakistan independence, again with the aftermath of British withdrawal.
