Alice Sherman Simpson

"Cringeworthy" seems just the right word to describe this series. The characters are light-weight, the dialogue stilted, and the performances disappointing. It's all too colorful. WWII is a serious subject, fleeing fascism and the Nazis no laughing matter. "Transatlantic" is SO Hollywood, and not for one moment did I believe I was in this moment in history. Why don't producers, directors and actors see how thin this production is, I asked myself at every plot turn?

Traveling across country on AMTRAK, I heard this story told on Love + Radio. It was breathtakingly and emotionally moving. I’ve never forgotten its poignancy. Such a surprise to see it tonight as a film. While I enjoyed it ., listening to the story told in the spoken word was even more emotional. Congratulations.
