So under-rated! Unless you're from NYC - turn on the subtitles. Characters speak quickly, and you don't want to miss one word of the crisp, witty, sarcastic, clever dialogue. Allen gives us another love letter to the flavor, moods and heartbeat of Manhattan. The seeds of "Midnight in Paris" are here. One of Allen's most ingenious scripts that allows him to point out the stinging absurdities of modern life with great humor and affection for his city.

This film is too long, historically incorrect, and wastes the talents of (3) good actors (Niven, Heston & Gardner). The dialogue is very poorly written and the direction is sub-par. This is a big spectacle of a film without a cohesive plot and loosely based on The Boxer Rebellion in China. Heston is miscast, Niven goes on & on with confusing dialogue, and this is Gardner's worst film by far. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the director who couldn't handle such a large production and his stars. Suggestion: skip this one.
