Massively over-hyped. There is some good writing, of course there is, but many of the characters - particularly Cass and PJ - are shallow stereotypes and the novel fails to really explore some critical themes. How did Dickie, a homesexual, maintain a heterosexual relationship? How did Imelda morph overnight from battered, penniless and presumably uneducated daughter to well-off housewife. Who is Victor, another closet gay? Just as an aside, how did customers leaving the Barnes garage without their catalytic converters not notice! The ending is more lazy than the intended cliffhanger. Best shoot them all!
