This show is at best a medicore sci-fi fanfic, and at worst an utter disgrace for even using the same title as the games/books.
There are very few redeeming qualities - the limited practical effects and set design are fine, but the CGI is awful, touting unconvincing movement, poor textural choices, and several "make it quick, they won't notice" moments. The show is dastardly generic, annoyingly mellow-dramic (I normally adore drama, here feels manufactured and unfounded, sticking out like a sore thumb), despite writers efforts to split from the 20+ years of established canon that perfectly encapsulated sci-fi action. The creators specifically wanted to bring more drama to the Halo universe, stating we need to see the characters eyes to do so - sadly the writing and performances were unsatisfyingly shallow, defeating the purpose of abandoning the canon in the first place.
The show's developers described their effort as "not canon" therefore, the countless unnessicary changes they've made are *toaaatally* excusable (sarcasm for the textually tone deaf). Somehow, even if this show didn't share the same title and similar characters, I'd still find it nausiatingly generic and trying too hard to a detriment. This show has been produced to death - that's the sad truth. It's been in production for so long that it no longer resembles the thing it set out to emulate with honor in the first place.
I can say without a doubt that I dispise this show with every fiber of my being. This is a stain on the brand. It fills me with deep regret to know that this is what people will associate with the series - not the 20+ years of massively popular content that the show's creators admittedly didn't consider, instead opting to force rewrites that defy logic. This show will disappoint most long time fans of the series, bore those who are new, and those left defending it seem to be clinging to a reputation the series earned but the show drastically tosses aside - that's a travesty. Please fire whoever made the horrible decisions that led Paramount+ to producing this dumpster fire. End rant.
