I have loved this book and the 1994 version so much that I felt this was a bit of a let down. Here is what I didnโt care for:
The switching of time throughout was unnecessary.
The casting was a bit off for me. Amyโs (Florence Pugh) anti-aging character was the most difficult to watch. Especially during her younger years. It was odd to see such a grown woman try and play the role of the little sister.
Teddyโs acting was pretty good but he looked too young for the role and it was distracting at times. He was just too boyish looking to play such a beloved character. Maybe Iโve seen Christian Bale play this role one too many times. Regardless, Bale set the bar very high.
The character casted for Beth just canโt hold a candle to what Claire Danes did in 1994.
The overall relationships between sisters were lacking and I didnโt feel as connected to the character as I did in the 1994 version.
Having said all that, the scenes in the movie are beautifully filmed and the music is pretty good.
The storyline of Jo and Frederick were portrayed well. I absolutely loved the scene of Jo and Teddy dancing together.
