For someone who was alive during the 1960’s, I found the details to be very accurate. It felt like the late 60s. Even though I was a young child at the time of the Tate/Lobianca murders I remember finding out about them in the mid 1970s and how creepy and scary it made the world seem.
This movie tells the story of the transition between the innocence and post-WWII era of entertainment to the more weary and mistrustful era of the 1970s.
It is basically a fairy tale and love letter to Hollywood from Tarantino. I liked how he contrasted the seemingly real lives of Rick and Cliff with the with the fantasy of Hollywood.
My 20 year old son thought it was boring. He felt like it didn’t have any plot. Him not really knowing the history of the times probably didn’t provide the context that he needed to appreciate what was going on. For me, the TV shows and commercials were nostalgic and took me back to what that era felt like.
I really liked it though. Both Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were excellent. Margot Robbie channeled Sharon Tate.
