I have always been a farmer mostly livestock but also various crops. I am now retired. I'm not sure if this cook, the main character on this programme is trying to persuade other people to go "farming" like him but to a real farmer like myself it is misleading to say the least.
I saw [not that I watched many programmes] one where 'free range" pigs were thrown grain onto thick muddy/shitty ground with the expectation that the pigs could pick up each grain. Imagine if your nice fried rice meal was placed on top of a plate covered in the same muddy/shit. Hav'nt these genius TV producers thought of a thing called a trough.
It is difficult on an average farm having been educated in agriculture to make a living without thinking one could make a living on this "life style" small block. I hope there are some "townies" who realize that you need a considerable amount of money to live like the "River Cottage" fellow does and to not fall for the idea that what they show on that TV programme is real and that they too can go out and live and survive financially. They won"t.
I feel like many of my farming friends that the programme is an embarrassment to farming. If you wan"t to make a small fortune start with a big one and go farming.
