Find it difficult to enjoy a story when I don't like the main character. Never made it to the end, gave up caring what was happening

Excellent Women is an excellent book. Every page is enjoyable. The main character I imagined to be Patricia Routledge. Most entertaining and a good feeling whilst reading. On YouTube there is a programme about a day out with Miss Pym which I watched just before I read the book which made the book even more interesting.

At the start of the book I felt quite disappointed as I found the characters uninteresting and I felt depressed as it talked about death, illness and debilitating conditions associated with old age. However, being a Barbara Pym novel I felt I ought to persevere and I'm glad I did! She is a marvellous author and all her books deserve to be read and enjoyed
