While it was interesting to see where the characters are 20 years on from the first film, that's also the main problem with T2 - how do you follow up such a shocking and brilliant film as Trainspotting? The answer is you don't. T2 comes off as more of an afterword to the first film than a stand alone story or sequel. I enjoyed T2, especially the acting, Boyle's brilliant directing, and, of course, the soundtrack, but it can't exist outside of the shadow of the first film, so it will forever draw unfavorable comparison.
