I was intrigued by this show and think the bad reviews given to this show was unfair. It was just the fist episode and you cannot base a show on one episode. So I will keep watching and then when I think there was significant time to give a negative review than I will. This show is different and melds different shows into it. It is Sci-FI after all. In my opinion, the premise of the show: a family broken by circumstance is thrown into turmoil when one half of the family is thrown into a massive sinkhole. Or looks like a sinkhole. In my opinion, it looks to be a sort of a way to the past or to an alternate reality. I guess "time" will tell. When they show her necklace being left behind as she searches, it is a hint of what is to come. Later we see the husband finding the necklace in the "present" and we are left to wonder. And then there is the Hollywood Hills that the woman sees. And more wondering. There are other hidden "Easter eggs" in the show that we keeps us interested and watching. I will continue watching and wanting to see what is going to happen. And of course there happens to be a government conspiracy. Always seems to be one of those. As I said, I will give it a chance instead of just writing it off. Of course, if it is canceled before I can give that review, then it will be just another show canceled before it reaches its potential. I was gung-ho years ago about Flash Forward and loved that show. After it was canceled, I vowed never to be that into a show again. This is just another good show that I will watch until something happens: like renewal or cancellation.
