It seems to me that the bad pacing is what ruined this story. For a narrative that seems like it could’ve been an emotional journey, the quick introduction of new information with little time to process them mixed in with slower paced scenes altogether made it impossible to get invested in the plot. I watched the most beautifully done scenes in this move with stunning animation and heartbreaking imagery that could, on it’s own, make you cry, but I just was completely unable to get invested and felt absolutely nothing. The music was also really disappointing compared to the first movie. Despite being an emotionally shallow movie, it did have some of the most incredible animation I’ve scene, so that’s a redeeming factor of the movie.
