"Civil War" is about the role of the photojournalists in war, the eye witnesses who share real time history in photos, without embellishment or detraction of words, until the very end when words are added. The photos of war shared with the audience are more up close than we are used to seeing in news. The stars of the film took the audience on a harrowing, visceral journey. They show humanity, bravery, familial-like care, and their self-awareness as witnesses who testify in pictures and who pass that grave responsibility to their next generation of tge press. The audience experiences how all senses are aroused in war. And the knowledge that we Anericans, like the photographers, can shape history by the choice we act on, they by which photos to share with us. The film was smart and could be consequential. And it was not about politics which were left intentionally ambiguous by facts, impossible in reality, we agree on.
