I was 8 months pregnant with my first child when my ex-husband and I went to see this groundbreaking film. The reasons I call it groundbreaking are for several reasons. The music was untouchable, the dancing started a movement in the middle of homespun USA, the changing laws on reproductive rights were beginning to bloom, and womenโs rights began a loud and unapologetic movement that was way overdue. All I knew, was I wanted in the worst way to jump up and move my pregnant body to that music that I didnโt want to stop. It was only later that I tried to dissect this movie for maybe what it really was. It was the voice of a decade. What a great movie.
