Gaijin does a poor job of balancing the game. The game is an absolute mess even in RB ("realistic" battles), but especially chaotic in AB (arcade battles). Light tanks just zip around the map and blow everything up, because Gaijin made it so their armor and crew get saving throws so they last longer in the game. Helicopters sit for several miles outside the map and just missile everything, then they go land and rearm and then repeat. Maps are made without any balancing tests done on them, so one side usually gets screwed over while the other side gets the best possible spawns. The American tree is Gaijin's favorite to beat with the nerf bat, where for whatever reason they added extra "math" to the shells so they penetrate less and do less damage (they recently increased spall damage on American rounds because they were underpeforming so much, yet the increase was a negligible five-percent, meanwhile they'll increase Russian performance by twenty-or-more-percent every patch). American tanks for whatever reason, despite weighing several tons more than their other counterparts, get some weird math to make them easy to push around so trolling players with German and Russian tanks can just push them into enemy fire. Russian tanks have make-believe gun depression contrary to their real life counterparts but American tanks get nerfed gun depression. Russian tanks run much faster than in real life while American tanks have speed governors added to them for "balance" reasons. Russian and German tanks reload much faster than in reality whereas American tanks get a nerfed reload rate. The list goes on and on. American and British tanks had a problem with exploding when they shouldn't have for years, but they didn't fix it until someone noticed a new Russian tank (the T-90, of course) had the same problem shortly after it was added to the game. Suddenly! Gaijin fixes the problem. Let's talk more about how there is no Russian bias!
The only reason people still play this game is because there are none others like it. And the way Gaijin balances things is nothing new, they've been terrible and biased at it since the beginning. There are posts from 2015 where Gaijin tells players to get over the lack of balance. Yet when they nerf American tanks it's for "balance."
Gaijin has no incentive to fix their game until they get some competition. The last time this happened was when Armored Warfare came out. Gaijin did A LOT to improve relations with the players and fix their game. Then everyone found out Armored Warfare was just another World of Tanks clone, and went running back to War Thunder, and Gaijin returned to their old ways.
Terrible game with lots of potential. I'd give it 5 stars if Gaijin wasn't so biased against American tanks (the American AA line is awful and there is no excuse for it when Gaijin magic wands other lines to make them fun to play, there's a reason why you rarely see American AA tanks in the game, and Gaijin doesn't care).
