where can i even begin. of course, as a student in animation i have to say that i respect what vivienne has done for the industry, but its such a shame that this show is what put indie animation out there. look, i really wanted to like hazbin. however despite the series' mature rating and the release on streaming, it genuinely feels like youre back watching something like steven universe. maybe i would have liked this show if i were a preteen again. as many have already said, the show shoots itself in the foot with how ambitious it wants to be, constantly introducing new characters just for the sake of it. these characters rarely have an immediate part in the story, are used as mere plot devices, and are often forgotten after their debut. the series wraps up conflicts just as quick as it introduces them. as an example, in the first episode that we meet lucifer, the tension between him and his daughter is already wrapped up. i understand that the crew had likely planned how they wanted to pan out this season before they were given an episode count, but in these cases you NEED to adapt. dont shove everything you possibly can into eight thirty-minute episodes. this show has so many good ideas, only to execute them in such a half baked manner its almost insulting. the original pitch of the series, a hotel to rehabilitate sinners, is completely thrown out the window after the first couple episodes. i guess on the brighter side, the songs are catchy, and some of the character designs are pretty funky when they arent making you nauseous.
