I was half way through the book when I realized it was a mini series. I decided to finish the book and then watch the show. From the start, it was blatantly different from the book for no good reason. None of the characters match their description in the book and i feel like it alters their actions. The only person that I felt was a spot on casting was Clemence Posey as Stella. I love the character of Francis, and is often described as being "haunting" and "creepy" in the book. I found him to be too cute and cheerful in the show. It wasn't a bad show, if it hadn't been based on a book. But having read the book, I felt let down by the whole thing. Clare Danes was an awful casting for Cora. Cora was described as being "tall" "not beautiful but striking" and "imposing". She was at least Williams height in the book and masculine in a way. I just found Danes too dainty for the character. Not an awful show, but just disappointing.
