The series “Grahan” on DisneyHotstar is Awesome. Bold. Relevant. Timely. Beautifully shot and directed. Indian cinema, with this remarkably no-holds-barred baring of the soft white underbelly of India’s hate politics and the connection between the police and politicians hammers you to tears and guilt. This movie is not just about the 1984 Sikh massacres but a devastating modern statement about all of us. The actors are exceptional. The seamless crossing of timelines is executed with skill and precision. The “period” cinematography and locale shooting and framing of Bokaro are grand and sweeping, often reminiscent of Ray and DW Griffiths and Shantaram. The OTT platforms are raising Indian cinema to new heights and allowing the flowering of the country’s super-abundant writing, directorial, and acting talents. We are once again beginning to hold a mirror to ourselves as we did with cinematic artistry like Akrosh and Arth and Garam Hawa … the Nihalinis, Benegals, Sathyus, Rays, Shabanas, Naseeruddins, Palekars … have now spawned worthy successors.

One of the bravest, emotionally scathing and compassionate films I have ever seen. It us more than a film. It is a composition. Diya Mirza and Raina , what to say of the supporting cast are flawless. A tribute to Indian film Making.

World class movie making. Perfectly casted. At times I didn't know whether I was watching a documentary or a fiction thriller. This film, though modest in comparison , competes with mega serials like Narcos on its own. Also, the legal angles are brilliantly researched. And Jackie Shroff and “ Madhava Mishra” are superlative. Had no idea Jackie was so unbelievably versatile. A MUST watch for anybody interested in no-nonsense film-making. After Onkara and Gangs of Wasseypur this is the go-to movie.
