Absolutely the most mature and intelligently written piece of Star Wars media on screen and likely across the entire franchise. For those who grew up loving the original trilogy, this is a series made for the Star Wars fans who actually did grow up. No reliance on nostlagia-bait or unbelievable plot-contrivances here, just raw drama. And for those adults unfamiliar with or sceptical of Star Wars media, this is a stand-out that deserves your attention. Prior knowledge is not a necessity here, just an open mind. The performances are award-worthy, the action is restrained yet brutal, and the themes are complex and painfully relevant. This is what big-budget streaming television can be at its best. Waste of time unfortunately. I had been rooting for this show, I didn't want the anti-woke hate mob to be right and I didn't see the issue with wanting to do something with a diverse cast. Sadly there was little for me to enjoy. Every actor I had prior-interest in gets killed off, none of the remaining characters captured my interest. The central mystery is vague and felt likely to lead to a contrived reveal. I dropped it on episode 5 of 8. I have never dropped a Star Wars show before, but I felt so pessimistic about where the plot would lead I just decided to read spoilers and felt pretty safe in the belief I wasn't missing anything good. The only positive I can give is there is some half-decent choreography for the duels, but the set design, locations and direction is so uninspired every fight feels lacking atmosphere. And with characters I care little about the fights hold no weight. A real shame. I'll just go rewatch Andor now.
