The the story of the Donner expedition has sufficient non-supernatural horror to not need the introduction of quasi-warewolves. The simple prose in which this novel is written and the love stories attributed to the historical and fictional characters lend it the aspects of a slightly above average romance. I will definitely avoid reading another work Ms. Katsu.
