My die-hard Star Wars fan friend showed me (another SW fan) the trailer. I was quite interested because it seemed like a good idea. Diving into the dark side of the force is something I would absolutely love to see. However, the execution of this idea was not the best.
DISCLAIMER: (The first episode was the only full one I could bear to watch. other details I mention are from snippets on YouTube or elsewhere. Also, all of these five star reviews are all bots or Disney fans.)
First, nothing visually made sense. I’m not talking about scenery or setting or any of that stuff. I’m talking about how a teeny tiny midget of a knife killed Jedi Master Indara. I mean, you're a Jedi MASTER for a reason. You can literally use the force, heighten your senses, enhance your athleticism, and her saber was green, meaning she has a deep connection with the force. Also, that stab wound was not very serious. Even though it did go quite deep, it was on the right side of the body, which is nowhere near the heart or any vital organs! Even bleeding out takes longer than 5 seconds!
Second, characters. They’re written with stiff, emotionless personalities. There isn’t really anything that stands out, nor is there any kind of obvious display of attractiveness (i. e. Anakin’s good looks, Han Solo’s charisma, Leia’s leadership).
Third, the lore. Since things are already so confusing, they just had to confuse viewers even more. For example, bleeding a kyber crystal requires holding it so you can channel immensely strong emotions (ex. Hatred, Anger, Fear) to corrupt it so it turns red from the emotions! I never knew you just had to be a little mad to bleed a crystal because you found out who killed your mommy 20 ish years ago. Plus, it was specified that the twins were born out of the force, but no one was born like that until Youngling Slayer! And, Darth Maul is the first sighting of a Sith Lord in the modern era; so why is there a Sith Lord in the Acolyte?!!?
Additionally, the degradation of things is killing me. Lightsabers have been reduced to causing minor scratches and cutting hair (that scene tried to be dramatic, but we all know it wasn’t.), and Darth Sidious is now a pedo that likes watching girls?!!?
Weird and obscure plot, bland characters, ruined lore, plus, respectable actors were damaged in this. That $180 million was def used for bribing them to destroy their reputation. This show had me hoping that Disney Star Wars could redeem itself, but it made me outrage and cringe.
Save yourself some time and do not watch this one.
