Yeah, look, here's the deal:
This game is not the most polished piece. In fact, it's pretty clunky. Graphics aren't super solid, you sometimes get forced into a wall and spaz out when in combat, you'll desync and you can't pick up objects on the ground.
Combat( specifically melee combat) can feel like a slog. Depending on what weapon you have, your character can swing a weapon like they've never used their arms or shoulders in their entire lives. It can really drag you out of it.
This game is brutal. Absolutely brutal. No tutorial. No hand holding. No safety. The second you spawn in, you're in danger. The weather will kill you. Hunger and thirst will kill you. A zombie will kill you. Other players will kill you. Everything will kill you.
But I still give it five stars.
When playing solo, every minute survived is an achievement. Every piece of fruit, every bullet, every bottle of water is worth a celebration. Despite the odds, you're making it work. Despite the whole world wanting you dead, you manage to scrape by.
Playing with a group is the same way. A gang of bandits tried to overpower y'all. You manage to fight them off. Or run away. Or talk them into being peaceful. Again, you and your group persevere. Despite the odds.
The level of immersion in this game is stunning, especially in the woods. You walk through the forest, and you hear... Nature. Your own breathing, the grass below you, the wind blowing through the leaves. In those moments, you can almost forget the dangers from the city. There's no zombies or players, just you and nature.
This game punishes me over and over again, but I get back in after every death. Every moment is a learning experience. Every moment of peace also comes with a moment of sheer adrenaline and fear.
10/10, games don't have to be pretty and perfect to go down as one of the best. Give it a shot.
