One of the best shows on tv... and you’ve probably never heard of it. I saw it recommended on amazon prime a year or so again and scrolled past it-mostly because of the nondescript title. Then The ‘Rona hit and we became desperate to find good shows to binge. I gave this a shot based solely on the reviews on amazon; didn’t read the reviews, didn’t watch the trailers, just hit play without any idea what I was about to watch. I ended up staying up waaay past my bedtime as I consumed one episode after another after another. Not going to even bother giving a write up on what it’s about. Others have done a more eloquent job of that. Just load it up and hit play. Thank me later.

I want to like it, and some episodes are ok, but it all amounts to nothing more than “grief porn.” For example, in the season 1 finale, they lead the viewers into thinking that perhaps things are finally going to change...a morsel of hope and then in the season 2 premier, the writers proceed to defacate all over their audience. We get it: religious fundamentalism is a very bad thing but honestly the continuous misery that’s perpetually heaped upon viewers becomes very tiring after a while. I would not recommend you binge-watch this show unless you enjoy feeling depressed and angry. I would suggest you balance this with HARLOTS (also on Hulu) which in my opinion, is a decidedly better show overall (when you watch HARLOTS, you’ll understand why I say this. It’s just a different way of looking a female subjugation/empowerment.)

I had to read A WRINKLE IN TIME in fifth grade and I found the blend of Christianity and interdimensional travel a bit confusing at the time. Fast forward over 20 years later and watching the movie at my kiddos recommendation and I’m glad I gave it a chance (despite the horrendous reviews.) I must say I’m actually very surprised by the negative press the movie received. I really expected it to be terrible but it wasn’t. Sure, it wasn’t exactly like the book, but most adaptations aren’t. Yes it had some pacing and transition issues, and the characters of the three misses could’ve been slightly more developed, but it was a visual masterpiece, light, refreshing and dare I say: fun! Ignore the reviews and watch it if you’re looking for a feel good Disney movie to watch with your family; in that regard, it definitely does not disappoint.
