Overall I really enjoyed the series. I thought the main characters were cast well & the story itself was entertaining. I binged it in a day. The cinematic effects were really enjoyable. I especially liked the battle between Dream & Lucifer. The whole concept of it was very entertaining. I loved the different mythologies represented throughout the series.
I've seen alot of complaints about the series "checking all the woke boxes" & I absolutely agree. I don't mind the representation but there were times when it just felt forced & unnecessary. It didn't fit into the story seamlessly but they needed to get it in there anyway. What bothered me most was the focus on the mistreatment of children in a few episodes in this series. Particularly the sexual & serial focus that was placed in episode 5 & 6. Episode 5 in particular seemed thrown together & could have been portrayed a number of different ways. The acting was poor & while I understand the point being made in this episode, it was very tasteless. Unnecessary sex scenes that seemed forced & completely unnecessary to the plot. The descriptive molestation of a child & passing it off as ok because now the boy is legally an adult & consenting to it. Episode 6-8 were not quite as bad but again with the focus, even if only briefly, on abusing children. On where & how he hunts them. Plenty of other shows have touched on those same subjects but this series did it in a way that just seemed wrong. Like in a way it's being passed off as an acceptable thing to have desire for a child. I was worried that the rest of the episodes would progress down the same path but they didn't & the story became the focus again. I did finish the series & I did enjoy it overall & look forward to another season if it gets 1. I'd have given it 5 starts were if not for the previously mentioned points.
