I started reading this book because my daughter has to read it for a class and she was confused that only herself and another student found the main character creepy and manipulative.
I actually enjoyed the opening of the book and expected more because of it only to be disappointed.
Ed, the main character, is completely unlikeable. Every woman is described by how attracted he is to her and every man by if the main character can best him strength wise. It makes him more of a creeper than a nice guy trying to do nice acts. This is especially the case when he attempts to help a 15yo girl. Every interaction with her focuses on the physical attributes Ed funds attractive. Even when discussing the old lady, Miller, he mentions how attractive she probably was when she was younger.
The constant pushing to date his (girl) friend who has turned down his advances multiple times is very off putting and hurts the story and adds to his creeper vibe.
And not once does he ask how he can help any of his human projects and assumes that what he thinks they need is enough.
Ed comes off as an incel narcissistic with a savior complex and a belief his friend owes him her body because he wants it.

It's a short read which is a positive, i guess.
