This was my first and last by Lisa Scottline. This book is a jumbled up mess. It started off good and kept my interest but went downhill. The first 3/4 of the book are the court case and what happened in the weeks before the court case. It was drawn out way too long and got boring. I almost stopped reading about halfway through but decided to trudge on thinking it might get better. It didn't.
This book is not what I would call a thriller by any means. Well, I was thrilled when it was over but that's not the point.
!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
The book is about a stepdad (Noah) and his court case of the murder of his step daughter. This goes every other chapter, along with the mother (Maggie) and her point of view.
The story goes along very slowly until we find out the step daughter wasn't really the step daughter but an imposter. The real daughter was kidnapped and put in a sex traffic ring. WTH? All of this happens in the last few pages. There was no mention of anything suspicious (besides the murder) until the very end and it was all jammed in 30 pages or so. It was like she added the last chapters of a different book onto this one. It would have been more interesting if this storyline was presented much earlier on.
There were also a few chapters about Noah and his experiences in jail. This added nothing at all to the story and could have been left out completely. I'm not sure where she was going with those chapters but she shouldn't have went there.
Glad it's over, won't read another!
