Excellent low key film with touching scenes as father and son bond over a weekend trying to recover Dad's stolen valuable specialist carpentry tools.

Watched 1.5 episodes. Acting was not outstanding. The lead actor was good in Bletchley Circle but not of lead standard for this. Her actions were very unprofessional, far-fetched. Phil Glenister looked like he was going through the motions. Below par for him. It all lacked 'welly' and impact. Reminded me of The Coroner which was a do it by numbers series with actors I had seen in better supporting roles.

The Old Man and The Gun. Robert Redford as a bank robber who can't give up his life of crime in a sad story that introduced us to his old man with pathos and humour roles which he brings off beautifully. Old Man and The Gun is very watchable. Equally solid co-lead Sissy Spacek opposite Redford demonstrates again the her considerable skills making for chemistry which engages. Casey Affleck as main detective giving chase and developing a restrained affection for Redford as robber Forrest Tucker plays a significant part in the story while substantial supporting performances come from Danny Glover and Tom Waits and Elizabeth Moss. Filming and lighting, subdued tones, sepia like, help create an atmosphere which evokes sadness.

Quirky, entertaining.

Quirky mix of police procedural with tongue in cheek humour and literary references plus main character breaking fourth wall to lead you into the life of the main character sharing confidences to propel the story along gently. Nice light touch from Nicola Walker hinted at slightly in Unforgotten with exchanges with her offsiderand the lighter moments in Last Tango in Halifax.

Not for anyone going through a painful separation or divorce. Then again it might work for you. It touches in a number of places thanks firstly to the writing which is beautiful, succinct and relevant to the situation portrayed, the humanness of the people and the emotions inhabited by a top cast. Annette Bening is superb as Grace, the wife of 29 years to Bill Nighy's Edward who announces one Sunday he is leaving because he says he can't be what his wife wants and has fallen in love with someone else. Script is a joy. Skilful use of poetry which adds much to engagement with the story.
