My opinion, for what it’s worth, is that Flip or Flop was relatable and had heart, this doesn’t. Christina and Tarek had their little family and they were struggling. Tarek, for whatever reason, always underestimated his wife and she emerged as a real talent that made houses, that probably should have flopped, a success. They had personal relationships with the workers and the contractors, not just as employees but as friends. Then, when it all fell apart, most of us saw ourselves in them. Love takes work. Relationships take work. Tarek was sick and struggling with a lot of health issues that probably made those other marital issues amplified. What all of us wanted and no one is saying is …we wanted Tarek to fight for his family. Instead, Christina moved on way too fast (maybe out of self preservation) and Tarek eventually moved on too (with someone that happens to look just like Christina). Fast forward several years and now we have a show with the rich version of Tarek who, let’s be honest, can comfortably afford a few flops and is far less relatable. We can just hear Christina making fun of his clothes in our heads. He pretty much writes a blank check for his new wife who finds random things she wants to change (like the roof color) to be included. He treats her kind of like a child who just finished a drawing they’re super proud of. To be fair, Heather seems like a really nice girl. If Heather’s talent is selling real estate then focus on that and let Tarek do the flips. Maybe showcase more designers and go through the actual process of designing with them showing us? I don’t know. It’s just missing the authentic relatability factor that is still there in Christina’s shows.
