This was a convoluted mess of a film...apparently made by a committee of politically correct novices...alternating between hammy, unnuanced performances and clumsy, inaccurate theorizing about colonial collective responsibility backed up by idiotic girl boss poses by the main character. It's goal seems to be proselytizing about the evils of organized religion, while glorifying elder abuse. The main character (played by Brandy) shows no realistic connection to her child or her husband. Their marital relationship lacks credibility and the character of the senior stepmother is bordering on theatrical. The husband's character is left to dangle, while we are treated to a revolting display of revenge actions by the wife/mother and the hypocrisy of stated positions by the central character that is worthy of an essay. There are continuity problems, side stories left unanswered and general ineptitude conceptually. Don't waste your time unless you like preachy, ham-fisted nonsense.
There are obvious biases reflected by the main character we are clearly supposed to identify with, while she attempts to identify and confront biases of the film's selected villain. An extra note of caution if you respect traditional spiritual norms or have ever attended to the needs of an incontinent loved one. There is an orgiastic delight in narrow- minded religious stereotypes, alongside harshly displayed intolerance to health difficulties of later life, all magnified to groom the audience toward disgust and/or indifference to elders, that is truly heartbreaking. Lowest rating...gross and ineffective storytelling.
