This show started out incredibly. The first few episodes were engaging and thought provoking, and throughout the whole series Ben Mendelsohn was terrific. But we should have known after they killed off Jason Bateman TWO episodes into a TEN episode series it was going to go downhill. I kept waiting for some mind blowing twist that never came. After you find out who/what El Cuco is there’s nothing. In fact, the worst scene of the whole show is when Holly just casually accepts El Cuco as a real thing from some random woman she’s never met before?... Sure... For episodes 1-4 I was setting aside times to watch, but 5-10 I tended to forget it had even aired. I realize it’s based on a book but it feels like full episodes go by where nothing happens, some of the dialogue is awful, most of the acting isn’t great, there are holes in the storyline, or my biggest pet peeve, characters that are somehow able to conveniently jump to accurate conclusions based on little or no information. Thought this show was going to be another great True Detective (not including the abomination that was season 2), but after the first few episodes it’s just nothing special.
