I liked when the book moved the story forward, but what ultimately ruins it for me is the book's constant reminder to the readers of the mother's Crohn's disease; and how it makes her life difficult with excruciating detail, even to the point where it halts the story many times. I get it, you don't have to remind me for the 30th time. I don't mind her conditioning affection her throughout the story, but the amount on backstory she has is completely unnecessary. Also, this was advertised as a horror book, but in actuality, it plays out as a family drama than anything else. There's barely any horror in it. Do not recommend.
