First, the preamble by Ethan was not helpful. Then the photography, lighting, the acting, the dialogue started putting me to sleep ten minutes in. I see this as a failed attempt by the director to send a message to “infidels” that we sort of get what we deserve. Then in his preamble to sell the film and its director, Ethan says he plays a soldier, and he doesn’t know if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. Yeah, well, I know a good film and a bad film, and this is the latter. I stopped watching forty minutes in because whatever the message was supposed to be, it wasn’t evident to my wife or me.
