After reading all the reviews here I can certainly understand the mixed reviews. The foundation of this part II aka The New Pope at first seems like a carry forward of the original. Then in episode 2 Sir John is introduced and my reaction was completely different. John Malkovich plays a very deep, sensitive and extraordinary yet strange "new pope". The second he appeared I was mesmerized by his look, his demeanor and his accent. There is a great back story here that will keep me coming back for more. His deep depression makes me love him more. The cinematography is bizarre yet interesting, which allows the audience to dwell on it's symbolism. The sexuality is evident everywhere which is offensive to most but then so is the truth. Will keep watching and hope this review helps more to join in on this Pope journey to understanding ourselves.
