I read a lot of reviews from Variety, Guardian, Telegraph, and a whole lot more. They were all mostly negative reviews detailing very little hope for this fourth installment. All I can say is watch the film for yourselves and decide.
It's definitely a tale of three parts. The first sets up the story and plot. It is a tongue-in-cheek poke at Hollywood and the Matrix franchise in general. I think this part irks the critics the most and I can see why. It is overly long but not in a boring way. The word MATRIX is used a billion times over (And throughout the movie too), and this could have been tapered down. The second part is where the film comes alive and the story develops with new characters and old characters appearing. The final third is decent and action-packed, and this is where it feels more like a Matrix film. The film certainly gets better as it progresses.
I enjoyed the film, it has a lot of merits, the writing could have been a lot better, the action sequences could have been more punchy and more new cast could have been introduced. Yes, it is a nostalgia trip like Spiderman No way home or Ghostbusters Afterlife or Rocky VS Drago ,
but it certainly works at a level that is acceptable. Definitely check it out in the cinema, it is a good popcorn flick with some cool sequences towards the end of the film, which point to more Matrix stuff in the future.
