I am not a fan of LJP, have not watched his popular films but liked some of his very old films that I watched without knowing it was made by him or who he is, ie simply before his popularity.
I was interested in Malaikottai Vaaliban after watching trailer etc so watched the film and enjoyed it, it was something different presented in an unexpected manner but very entertaining, it's like a folklore.
Likewise, I didn't get bored, the only time I felt what next was after that fight with foreigner like the protag I also felt what next after this, then it went Shakespearean mode which was interesting, one can see tribute or reference to other films, genre etc, this is a crazy review, and it won't make sense because the film is like that it has so many things in it, and it's hard to spot everything but still enjoyable at least one can understand the story if we keep aside philosophy and other references etc. These kinds of films are only seen in films from other countries, ie films that are different from their usual format.
This is not an art film, but sometimes even art films end up better than usual ones.
